on Autumn

Autumn
is the time of renewal and purification...and what is purification if not
getting to know your own truths? Now is the time of turning
inward, a time to gather what is good, healthy, abundant and pure to our
centres, a time to let go of what no longer serves us well, and release
what holds us back. Instead of striving to build up more, we can get to a
more truthful place by stripping things away. Yoga practice has always been
to get back to the truth. So what can you let go of and what do you want to
truly birth?
Autumn
season is ruled by Vata (ether and air) which governs movement in the body
and mind. The nature of Vata is extra sensitvity so it is important to be
more conscious to maintain balance at this time by taking some extra
time to nurture yourself and replenish the nervous system as well as
cultivating stability and routine. A warm massage with sesame oil is very
balancing and calming. A regular yoga practice encourages us to stay
present - to live in the centre of changes and experience changes as they
arrive.
As we
watch the leaves fluttering to the ground, we are reminded that nature's
cycles are mirrored in our lives, and the impermanent nature of things, and
so brings home the challenge to live everyday to the fullest.
May the
energy of Autumn help you to realize that all forms, even painful ones pass
and leave us with an opportunity.

Yoga
Workshop - 7th Oct 2007

'Renewing
the Connection through the Practice of Mindfulness'
Deep in our
hearts, we all yearn for inner peace and happiness. We inevitably get
caught up in our daily lives and we don't take time to listen to the voice
of our Inner Self. So it is truly invaluable to set aside sacred time for
ourselves. The practice of yoga uncovers that wisdom that we are already
Whole.
This workshop
will build on our capacity to be a witness to our own thoughts, thereby
quietening the mind and experiencing stillness and peace. This gives us a
firm ground within, to stand on, and fertile soil for inner exploration, as
well as the ability to live our lives with more calmness and clarity.
Having insights liberates us from unconscious and mechanical movement
through life.
Using asanas,
pranayam, meditation, chanting and some study of the philosophy of yoga, we
will explore bringing meditative awareness and mindfulness to our yoga
practice and to bring yoga to life.

The
Diamond in Your Pocket
Gangaji
There is
a story my teacher liked to tell about a consummate diamond thief who
sought to steal only the most exquisite of gems. This thief would hang
around the diamond district to see who was purchasing a gem, so that later
he could pick their pocket.
One day he
saw a well-known diamond merchant purchase the jewel he had been waiting
for all his life. It was the most beautiful, the most pristine, the purest
of diamonds. He was very excited, and so he followed the diamond merchant
as he boarded the train, getting into the same compartment. He spent an
entire three-day journey trying to pick the merchant's pocket and obtain
the diamond. When the end of the journey came and he hadn't found the gem,
he was very frustrated. He was an accomplished thief, and although he had
employed all his skills, he still was not able to steal this rare and
precious jewel.
When the
diamond merchant got off the train, the pickpocket followed him once again.
Finally, he just couldn't stand it any more, and he walked up to the
merchant and said, 'Sir, I am a renowned diamond thief. I saw you purchase
that beautiful diamond, so I followed you onto the train. Though I used all
the skills of my art, which have been perfected over many years, I was not
able to find the gem. I must know your secret. Tell me, please, how did you
hide it from me?'
The
diamond merchant replied, 'Well, I saw you watching me in the diamond
district, and I suspected you were a pickpocket. So I hid the diamond where
I thought you would be least likely to look for it - in your own pocket!'
He then reached into the thief's pocket and pulled out the diamond....read more

''Nonviolence
is the answer to the crucial political and moral questions of our time: the
need for man to overcome oppression and violence. Man must evolve for all
human conflict a method which rejects revenge, aggression and retaliation.
The foundation for such method is love."
- Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
